We’ve Got Their Backs (and Backpacks): Louisville, KY

Blessings in a Backpack provides food to area kids in food-insecure homes during the weekends and school breaks.

With items like (but not limited to) granola bars, raisins, apple sauce, crackers, macaroni and cheese, and soups, every $100 donated through the program feeds one child on the weekends for one 38-week school year. The result: nourished kids ready to learn, thanks to non-perishable, child friendly food containing three of the four essential food groups.

During our fourth quarter Bags for Change drive in 2016, Lucky’s Market partnered with our community to award wooden dimes for each reusable bag used to donate to Blessings.

Our efforts raised enough money to feed 9.5 children for an entire school year. That’s 363 hunger-free days! Thanks for your help, Louisville!
