Dimes Add up for Priceless Court Support for Children: Lexington, KY

CASA–Court Appointed Special Advocates–works to ensure children suffering child abuse or neglect are protected and given a chance to thrive. CASA succeeds through the training of qualified volunteers who speak for the children’s behalf in the family court system.

Unfortunately, training that kind of support comes at a cost. Lexington CASA volunteers go through a 34-hour training series at the local office before being appointed to a case in the Fayette County Family Court system. As part of this training, manuals for the volunteer program are required. Dense with information about how best to advocate for children through the program, each manual costs $25.

Our Bags for Change program provided CASA with 18 new training manuals for volunteers training to be a voice of care in Lexington.

Throughout the child’s case, quite often the foster parents, social workers, schools, towns, and everything else in the child’s life will change many times due to placement. One of the goals of CASA is to minimize these changes, both by providing continual monitoring and advocacy for the child, and by acting as a stable and constant person in this child’s life.
